How To Fit Exercise Into A Busy Family Life

JAN 25, 2020

As a busy mom, it can be hard to find any time to exercise.

If your mornings are all about the school run, your afternoons are jam packed with nap times, playtime, errands, and ticking tasks off your ever growing to-do list, and your evenings are full of cooking and prepping for tomorrow, you probably feel like there’s no opportunity to sneak in any kind of workout.

If you are a working mom, you share the same challenge of simply not having enough time in the day to fit it all in!

Today, I’m going to talk about how you can look at exercise from a different perspective - hopefully one you’ll find easier to fit into a busy family life.

Instead of aiming for a whole workout, break things down into small chunks of time that can still happen even when life gets super busy.  I don’t view this as a long term solution as I think every mom deserves to carve out for herself but sometimes you have to do what you have to do!

So even if you can get moving for even a couple of minutes here and there, it can soon add up over the course of a week. Bonus points if you can really make the time count by upping the intensity for those precious few minutes!

Got a few minutes spare? Use it for a burst of activity.  It can even be a great way to counteract boredom and frustration in day-to-day life.

Those times where you can either take the escalator or the stairs – take the stairs!

A few other ideas to get more exercise into busy family life:

  • If you’re a working mom, think about parking further away from where you work or getting off a stop earlier and walking further if you use public transport.
  • Have family dance offs while dinner is cooking.
  • Try to fit in some family walks or bike rides at the weekends.

Until next time!
