TWR 140: Necessary Shifts for Achieving Sustainable Weight Loss (Part 4 of 5)

This is part 4 of Amber’s series about shifts that are necessary to achieve sustainable weight loss, keep the weight off, and create a lifestyle that feels effortless. It all boils down to habit and mindset changes that allow you to live a lifestyle that works for you and gets you off the diet wagon once and for all. Check out parts 1-3 if you haven’t already because they set the stage for the big game changer that is shift number 4. This one was a huge dial mover for Amber, and if you can’t master this one, then none of the others really matter. Without making this crucial mindset shift, you will remain a prisoner to food, and no one wants that. The key lies in healing your relationship with food.

Dysfunctional relationships with food are so common, and many women don’t even realize that their relationship with food needs healing, but here is what everyone needs to hear: Your relationship with food is not your fault. There is so much advice out there about what to eat and what not to eat, that these ideas of “good” food vs. “bad” food have been ingrained in us for so long. Mama, it’s time to ditch the idea of food morality because the truth is, food is food. If you ever feel anxious about food or guilty for eating something you think is “bad”, then take a look into your relationship with food and let’s think about human tendencies here. As humans, when someone tells us we can’t do something, what usually happens? We focus on the one thing we aren’t supposed to do. By making this seemingly simple mindset shift that food is food and that you are a grown woman who can eat what you want, your relationship with food can heal and become something you can be consistent with.

When you start operating out of this mindset, you can move into your rational mind and think about, “Okay I can have this cookie, but what am I really craving? Can I have a healthier alternative that will satisfy my craving?” If you want to get off the diet roller coaster, you need to own this new mindset. It might be scary for some women because they think it will lead to binging, but Amber promises that if you can just start to make this shift, you can change the way you look at food, end the guilt spiral, and let go of the common “all or nothing” mentality. If you don’t get a grip on this piece of it, everything will be “just another diet.” By mastering this one shift, you will be able to be consistent with the first 3 and that is the name of the game.
