Simple Tools to Conquer Your Cravings

May 25, 2022

Okay let me start by saying, when I tell you I’m going to teach you how to conquer your cravings, it’s about much more than just helping you lose weight.

When I say I want you to conquer your cravings I mean I want to help you learn your body and listen to your bio feedback so you truly begin to change your mindset. Because true, sustainable change starts with our thoughts.

This is when the real changes happen- the changes that last forever.

I’ve got to tell you, when you can combine the tactical part of your nutrition, really understanding how to build your plate and understanding those big dial movers when it comes to nutrition, particularly over 40 and you combine that with real mindfulness, you get a lifestyle. And that's the goal.

For the longest time, I didn't honor my body. I did what all the diets told me to do and I never listened to what my body was telling me. That's why I bounced from one diet to the next  - never really feeling confident in my body.

Think back to all the diets you’ve tried. They teach you to ignore your body’s cues - like hunger, cravings, etc - and to squash them down. That’s why they fail. So, why don't you try something different?

The first thing I want you to do to help understand your cravings, is to really start recognizing HOW food affects you. Not your weight loss, but your body.  A good way to start doing this is by logging your food.

THE GOAL HERE ISN'T TO TRACK YOUR CALORIES but to track how the food makes you feel. Does something make you feel bloated? Does something make you crave a salty snack later? Do you feel really full and satisfied after you eat a particular meal?

Remember, we're just getting clinical with our cravings. The first step to conquering them is to separate the emotions, this is a NO JUDGEMENT ZONE.

If you’re constantly craving, say sugar, IT DOESN’T MEAN YOU’RE BAD, it means your body is reacting to the food you eat, or your hormones are imbalanced, or maybe you just want a little bit of sugar, and that's okay too.

Next, I want you to ask yourself some questions on the days you're feeling really snacky or you have strong cravings.

Questions like:

Did I get enough sleep? Sleep has a tremendous impact on our cravings and our hormone levels.

Did I get enough protein and good fats in my last meal? These help you feel fuller and more satisfied for longer.

Do I have anything hormonally going on? Maybe your cycle is going to start and your hormones are pushing you towards cravings- and you need to give yourself a little grace
.
Did I eat ENOUGH in my last meal? So many of the women I work with tell me what they're eating daily and it's just not enough to fuel your body or keep you full and satisfied.

This is just the beginning, ladies. It takes time and a little grace to learn your bodies BUT this is how we start to reset how we feel about food and how we start to lose weight in a healthy and sustainable way.
