No time or motivation? I got you...

June 30, 2022

I spoke to a client recently, and she needed to vent. Her day starts at 6am, she starts the crazy school routine with the kids, she goes to work full time, comes home to juggle kids after school programs, fits dinner in there somewhere and then there is just no time- or energy- to workout.

It's a classic and very real struggle from women around the world.

You can hear the collective sigh from all the women looking at their daily schedule trying to find a spot to fit in some "me" time.

So, I'm going to share with you the same tips I gave my client for finding time and motivation when there just doesn't seem to be any left.

Now, I have to start this by telling you how important it is that you DO find the time.

Exercise does more than work towards a bikini body. It strengthens your bones, helps your heart, decreases blood pressure issues and we won't even go into what it can do for your mental health.

I know, I know, YOU know you need to exercise. But sometimes we lose sight of HOW important it is for many reasons. So back to the tips...

So first, and this is a REALLY important one, I want you to accept and own that you can't pour from an empty cup. What I mean by that is that as caregivers, mothers, wives, partners, we give so much of ourselves to other people that we often don't leave anything else for ourselves.

I know many of us still have kids at home, and we think we have to give our all to motherhood because it doesn't last long. Or we think we have to use all of our spare time keeping a house or working on our career. But the truth is, your health, mental and physical, is just as important as all of those things.

The more time you allow yourself to put your your own health down the list of priorities, the more time passes that you feel uncomfortable in your own skin, and you sink deeper into an unhealthy lifestyle. SELF CARE ISN'T SELFISH. Your children, your partners, your career will all be better with a happier and healthier you in their lives.

You've probably heard this a thousand times but until you're ready to commit FOR YOURSELF, you are always going to find a reason to NOT do it.

Second, SOOOOO many of the women I talk to every day have started working out or started a nutrition plan and went ALL IN. And they burned out quickly. You don't have to dive in head first to work on yourself, mamma.

I recommend starting with 2 days. Pick two days and commit, no matter what. You have to hold yourself accountable but it's okay to ease into this. When you're comfortable with two days you can add more. And normally you'll WANT to. Exercise is addictive and you'll want to add more in because it feels good and makes you feel good.

The key here is to MAKING IT HAPPEN. There is no one that's going to come to your house and force you to do it. You will never really feel 100 % ready to go workout but I PROMISE you will feel better as soon as you finish that last rep or those last few minutes of cardio.

These workouts can be 5 minutes of HIIT. They can be raising your heart rate with a walk around the block. They are meant to get you started and building momentum.

You don't have to start with hour long workouts three times a day to start feeling better mamma.

You will start seeing little wins, you'll start to pick up heavier weights or hold your planks longer or go a little deeper in your squats. These things all add up and push you to go further. These are the wins that will make the difference for your wellness journey so celebrate them!

And finally, SLEEP. You gotta get enough sleep ladies. If that means working out earlier in the morning so you can go to bed earlier. OR working out at night and sleeping in a little later. You cannot workout properly, or do ANYTHING properly without enough sleep.

I honestly believe that sleep is more important to our overall health than good nutrition and fitness because without it, we tend to make bad decisions with our wellness and our mental health takes a huge dive.

So, test out what works best for you. If you're a night owl, get your workout in but GET GOOD REST. If you're an early bird, kick off your day with a workout BUT GET GOOD REST.

And don't forget, if you have an off week. Things come up in life, and you miss one of your workouts. DON'T GIVE UP. Give yourself grace and get back to it.
